Terri Hron

Bio

Recorder player and composer Terri Hron spends her time finding the right balance between performance, composition and improvisation. She began this search at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she studied all three subjects. Terri is often asked to be involved in performances of early music when there is some twist involved: in 2008, the Pacific Baroque Orchestra invited her to play with them and write a new work for the orchestra based on the Vivaldi concerti she chose to perform. As a contemporary music spcialist, she has developed a highly personal way of playing and using her instruments, which has made her in demand as an improviser and interpreter of new works. Some of her current activities include an ongoing project Bird on a Wire where she commissions composer to write pieces for recorder and electronics. She toured and recorded the first 7 pieces in the fall of 2008. She is also working on a staged, location-specific musical show, Pidgoyomon, with singer/songwriter/instrument builder Catherine Thompson. She enjoys collaborating with a number of musicians in a duo setting, including Robbert van Hulzen (Rara Avis), Alfredo Genovesi, Jorrit Dijkstra and Sam Davidson. Terri is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes. She recently spent a number of months at The Banff Centre, working on new projects and (re-)writing several large-scale works. She lives and works in Amsterdam.
