NOTAM's artistic profile has its origins in electroacoustic music, with the interdisciplinary approach this field has had all along. We are therefore naturally interested in all kinds of musical and artistic expressions that have technical or aesthetic ties to this starting point, and NOTAM today is a natural workplace for composers of many genres, musicians and artists working with audio, and developers with more technical or theoretic interests. NOTAM nurtures new artistic expressions in step with how art and the understanding of art evolves, and frequently contributes with technology and productional support for interdisciplinary works featuring audio as a central element.

In addition to helping composers and other artists with technical resources, NOTAM commissions works and contributes to concerts domestically and internationally with program proposals and technology. Through our contact network we act as a gateway for Norwegian music and art, and in international arenas NOTAM figures as a valuable partner both technically and artistically.

One example is our work in establishing and managing Kunstnett Norge during the time this existed, with its natural focus on the Internet both as an arena and as a communicative channel for art. NOTAM's long-time annual contributions to the Ultima Festival is another example, both direct contributions in form of own productions or the more invisible and indirect contributions where we help out with the festival's own productions. Internationally one can mention the pioneering Internet concert WHO-HOW-WOH that we set up with the Sibelius Academy and the Warsaw Autumn 1998, and the collaborative plans that we are currently developing with the Warsaw Autumn and the Zdarzenia Festival in 2009. The EU project Integra was recently concluded, and NOTAM's contributions here were mainly technical in nature, for production and peformance of both commissioned new works or modernized older works. Yet another example is the sound art exhibition "Absorption, resonance and dialogue" that we are producing at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter at Høvikodden in November 2008, and all publications that are due for release as contributions to international discourse in connection with this exhibition.

NOTAM consistently helps lay the groundwork for innovative artistic work, and opens for interesting connections between research and development, education, and novel mediation forms and arenas.
